Overview
The UCLA School of Dentistry offers very special and unique
“Preceptorship Programs” for internationally trained
dental school graduates and practitioners through its Continuing
Education Program. The goal of the preceptorship program is
to provide additional educational experiences to dentists
in a specific area of interest and specialty. Preceptors attend
school on a full-time basis. The curriculum includes classes
with graduate and/or undergraduate dental students and observations
and participation in the clinics and operating rooms. The
programs are structured to allow for a great deal of personalized
instruction. Upon fulfillment of program requirements, students
receive a special certificate of completion.
We are currently accepting applications for preceptees in
the following areas:
Please note: These programs are not intended to prepare individuals
to practice a specialty. It is expected that the individual
will return to his/her country after gaining insights and
improving his/her expertise in a specialized area for the
practice, teaching and research of that subject.

Preceptorship Program has only 1 start date in the summer

Preceptorship Program also only begins in summer each year
with a mandatory length of 1 year.
Tuition*
$4,500.00 each quarter

Orthodontic Preceptorship - See Orthodontics above

*Subject to change without notice.
The tuition fee is paid to the UCLA Continuing Dental Education
Office at the beginning of each quarter. Tuition fees, medical
insurance, and costs for housing and living expenses are the
responsibility of the preceptor. No financial assistance is
available or provided by the university for a preceptor.
Certificate
A Certificate of Attendance is presented by the UCLA Continuing
Dental Education Office upon completion of the preceptor's
program. The certificate specifies the period of enrollment
and is not the same as the postdoctoral program certificate
awarded to the full-time postdoctoral students in specialty
training as a qualification for recognition by the American
Dental Association. The preceptor-ship certificate is not
recognized in the United States as advanced study nor recognition
of specialty training.
Immigration
Regulations
All preceptors must enter the United States on a F-1 visa which
is processed by the UCLA Continuing Dental Education Office.
This is a non-immigrant visa which presumes you are in the United
States for the purpose of studying for a limited time. Visa
application paperwork (1-20AB) will be sent to you after acceptance
to the program. Health
Insurance
All foreign students attending UCLA are required to be insured
under an adequate medical insurance plan during all periods
of registration. Medical insurance is not provided by UCLA
for preceptorship students and preceptors can not be seen
at Student Health Services. The School of Dentistry requires
that you obtain a health clearance prior to enrollment in
the program, for individual and community health reasons.
The health clearance must include a complete physical examination,
and demonstration of immunity to certain communicable diseases.
Annual monitoring for tuberculosis will also be necessary.
