Alumni Day 2009 (Held in conjunction with the CDA Spring scientific Session)
Reunion and Awards Luncheon
Our annual event was held on Saturday, May 16, at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel. A record 410 Alumni and Friends were in attendance to help honor Melanie Gullett ’83 and George Maranon ’83, our Co-Alumni of the Year. Dr. Harold Hargis received this year’s Honorary Alumnus of the Year Award. And, Dr. Richard Stevenson ’86, was awarded the American Dental Association’s Golden Apple award for teaching excellence
This year we honored the reunion classes of 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004. Over 150 enthusiastic Honored Class members were in attendance.

Dean’s Reception

During the evening, Dean No-Hee Park hosted his annual reception. Over 700 guests joined the Dean for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The reception is the consistent hit of the CDA Spring Scientific Session’s social events.
Annual Silent Auction
The auction took place during the luncheon and reception. This year, we added many non-dental related items. Bidders had a choice of 32 auction packages that ranged from dental equipment and materials to flying lessons and a weeks stay in a private beach house in Hawaii.
The auction raised over $6,000 for the Alumni Fund. In addition to covering the cost of alumni activities, the fund helps us enhance the experiences of UCLA’s Dental Students.
Alumni Facebook Page:
The UCLA Dental Alumni Association now has a Facebook page. Several hundred individuals have already signed up. Now there is another way to find out what is happening at the dental school and keep in touch with your classmates and fellow alums.
Upcoming Event: October 24, 2009
Annual Breakfast/Lecture
Our annual Breakfast/Lecture will be held at the UCLA School of Dentistry from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. For those interested, a tour of the school will follow the lecture.
All Dental School Picnic
The picnic starts at 11:30 am and will be held at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. All UCLA Dental Alumni are invited to attend.
