Oral suspension: 125mg/5ml
Capsules: 100, 200, 500 mg
Powder for injection

Dosage and Route

Adult:

PO 250-500 mg q6h
IM 250 mg/kg/day in divided doses
IV 250-500 mg q8-12h

Child (under 8):

PO 25-50 mg/kg/day in divided doses
IM 15-25 mg/kg/day in divided doses
IV 10-20 mg/kg/day in divided soses

Clinical Indications

adjunct therapy for chronic adult periodontitis
adjunct therapy for localized juvenile periodontitis
treatment of acute necrotising ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG)
treatment of periodontal abscess

Adverse Reactions & Side Effects

Tooth discoloration in children, lichenoid drug reaction, candidiasis, erythema multiforme
Interaction with birth control pills.

Contraindications

history of hypersensitivity and allergy to tetracyclines
children under 8 years
pregnancy category D
lactation
