Externship/Observer Program
Although the UCLA School of Dentistry does not offer a formal elective or exchange program, we do welcome individuals in their 3rd or 4th year of study in dental school to be student observers in our classrooms and clinics. Externships are available in all of our specialty clinics as well as our general clinic. Should you be admitted as an observer, you will be introduced by email to the faculty, staff, and students. Please note that you are not permitted to engage in patient treatment or work in the student laboratories during your stay.
Because this is not a formal program, we cannot offer school credit for your stay, and you would not be enrolled as any type of student. You would also be expected to find your own accommodations. However, there are many local hotels and a hostel in Santa Monica not far from the UCLA campus, as well as bus lines that go directly to and from UCLA. You are also welcome to log on to the UCLA Community Housing Office website to look for temporary housing.
Again, we must stress that you cannot engage in patient care or be formally enrolled with any official status.

- Indicate your expected arrival and departure dates
Students are allowed to observe in our clinics for a maximum of one (1) week.
