2013 Alumnus & Honorary Alumnus of the Year

Dr. Greg Prince, 73 was part of the sixth DDS Class at the School of Dentistry. After graduation, he moved down the corridor of the Center for Health Sciences to the Department of Pathology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and in 1975 received a PhD in Pathology, with a research emphasis on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the primary cause of infant pneumonia throughout the world. image001.png

Dr. Prince and his wife JaLynn moved to Maryland in 1975, where he continued his research on RSV at the National Institutes of Health. He took the Northeast Regional Dental Board exams in 1976, and from that time until 1994, he combined two careers, one in medical research and the other in family dental practice.

Dr. Prince is the author of more than 150 scientific papers. He is also an avid historian and has published two books, one monograph and nine journal articles in Western American history and biography.

For the past three decades, he has held adjunct faculty appointments at the School of Medicine and the School of Dentistry, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor.

 

image002.pngDr. Fermin Carranza received his dental degree from the University of Buenos Aires in 1948 followed by a certificate in Periodontics from Tufts University in Boston in 1952. He then went onto hold several teaching appointments, including an Assistant Professor of Periodontics, an Adjunct Professor of Oral Pathology and a Professor of Periodontics. From 1966 to 1974, he held the Chair of Periodontics at the University of Buenos Aires. Following this tenure, he joined UCLA as a Professor and the Chair of the Section Periodontics at the School of Dentistry until his retirement in 1994 when he became a Professor Emeritus.

Dr. Carranza has received numerous awards and has written more than 141 scientific papers and 92 abstracts and has authored numerous books on the field of Periodontics.
