aulo M. Camargo, D.D.S., M.S., M.B.A., F.A.C.D. is a professor in the Section of Periodontics in the Division of Associated Clinical Specialties at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He joined the dental school faculty in 1996.
"I have always had a passion for teaching. Besides my formal education and research experience, four years in private practice as a periodontist in Los Angeles prepared me to embark on a full-time academic career. As an educator, I have been able to contribute to the periodontal program at UCLA by incorporating “real world” experience into a traditional teaching program. I enjoy academia because of its diverse activities, its highly intellectual environment, and most importantly because of the contact with students. UCLA is one of the great universities in the world and its dental school is an integral part of its success. Periodontics at UCLA enjoys a tradition of leadership and excellence and I am proud to be a member of this family."
Following his dental school graduation and a brief period of time practicing general dentistry, Dr. Camargo came to UCLA to pursue a career in periodontics. He first conducted research in periodontal microbiology and immunology and proceeded to receive a certificate in periodontics and a master’s degree in oral biology at UCLA. Between 1990 and 1995, Dr. Camargo was a part-time clinical instructor in periodontics at UCLA and practiced periodontics in a private setting in Los Angeles. In 1996, Dr. Camargo became a full-time faculty member at UCLA where he has been the pre-doctoral clinical director of periodontics. Besides teaching at the pre- and post-doctoral levels, Dr. Camargo conducts an active research program in the area of periodontal regeneration and maintains a private practice limited to periodontics and dental implants. Dr. Camargo is the author of more than sixty scientific publications and has presented over one hundred lectures in the United States and beyond. He has also been the recipient of nine teaching awards, scholarships, and fellowships.
Dr. Camargo is a member of the UCLA Periodontics and Implant Faculty Group Practice. In that capacity, he provides the full scope periodontal and dental implant services to private patients. In his practice, he offers the latest techniques in periodontal reconstructive surgery, periodontal plastic surgery, and oral rehabilitation utilizing dental implants.
Dr. Camargo conducts clinical and basic-science research in the areas of periodontal and alveolar bone regeneration.
