| In Memoriam: Joseph Matyas Mr. Joseph Matyas, a longtime staff member and then volunteer at the UCLA School of Dentistry, passed away on March 19, 2007. He was 71 years old. This has been a tremendous loss for our School and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Joseph began working at the School of Dentistry in the early 1970's. He was a Senior Research Associate in the Biomaterials Science Section working closely with Dr. Angelo Caputo. During his years in that section, his functions were varied because of his background and extensive knowledge. One of his major duties was to function as liaison between faculty, students, and dental laboratory support staff. He had laboratory and lecture teaching responsibilities in dental morphology and more extensively in dental materials. Further, he performed research projects with Dr. Caputo and in collaboration with other faculty and students. These projects included basic materials testing and biomechanical investigations. As a result of his contributions, he was cited as a co-author in approximately twenty articles published in refereed dental journals. He also presented at numerous international dental meetings. A memorial service for Joseph was held at Westwood Hills Christian Church on Saturday, March 31. |
