Students On The Go!

Fourth-year pre-doctoral students will begin visiting community clinics located throughout Southern California, including San Fernando, El Centro, Palm Desert, Northridge, and Venice. The inaugural cohort is part of the new Community-Based Clinical Education program that provides much-needed dental treatment to those who have challenges accessing care. The program is funded in part by the $1.5M grant from Delta Dental Insurance Company that the school received in January. The 4-week program aims to bring the dental school to the community and also expose D4 dental students to underserved patients. 3/6/18

March 22 Dental Alumni Practice Management Course

Group of alumni attending the practice management courseOur Practice Management Course was held in Pasadena at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel. Twenty-five UCLA Dental Alumni were in attendance. The event was free of charge and attending alumni found classmates of the same decades (70-80's, 90's, 2000's) and had a good time sharing memories and discussing practice-building tips.

The alumnus who traveled farthest was Dr. Karl Smith, Class of 1981.He flew from Virginia to LAX, drove to San Diego to watch the Bruin basketball game the night before, then drove back to Pasadena to join the course! He also felt” it should have been a two day course with David Fagan!"

Craig Valine, a marketing performance strategist, was our first speaker. He discussed seven ideas to implement and improve practice profits. This included monthly newsletters and building the patients' list.  He also spoke about creating a referral culture and maintaining a good reactivation program. Following was David Fagan, an award winning Marketing and Media Expert, who discussed how to create an icon status in our own community. He gave out the formula to create website videos, and led the audience through a fun exercise (actually involved walking!) where we shared practice building ideas and the attendees chose the best ones. The seminar concluded at 3pm. The feedback from the alumni was very positive. All were appreciative of the opportunity to reconnect with other alumni and learn new ideas that they could implement in their practices,
