Dr. Christine Hong is an Associate Professor in the Section of Orthodontics in the Division of Growth and Development. After completing her undergraduate studies at Cornell University with Summa Cum Laude and dental education at Harvard University with Cum Laude, she pursued a dual program in orthodontics training and an M.S. degree in Oral Biology. Immediately following the completion of her residency, she joined the faculty at UCLA. Dr. Hong currently serves as Program Director of the Pre-doctoral Orthodontic Education.

As one of the top priorities in her academic career, Dr. Hong has been actively engaged in orthodontic educational programs for dental students. As Director of the Pre-doctoral Orthodontic Program, she chairs all orthodontic courses for dental students and is responsible for the didactic, preclinical, and clinical orthodontic training of all dental students and Professional Program for International Dentists (PPID) students. Dr. Hong has been extensively involved in personally mentoring students, including 11 M.S. students, 5 orthodontic residents and Advanced Clinical Training (ACT) students, and 32 dental students. Her commitment towards orthodontic education has been recognized by various teaching awards, including the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (AAOF) Subtelny, Baker, Eastman Teaching Fellowship Award, the AAOF Willie and Earl Shepard Orthodontic Faculty Development Award (the highest award given by the AAOF to one junior faculty), and the AAO Academy of Academic Leadership Award.

Professionally, Dr. Hong achieved Board Certification through the American Board of Orthodontics immediately following her appointment to the faculty and has been invited to give lectures at multiple orthodontic meetings including the American Association of Orthodontists annual meeting, the largest orthodontic conference in the world, on “Emerging Applications of TADs,” introducing new strategies in order to increase efficiency of biomechanics, accelerate tooth movement, and achieve palatal expansion. Dr. Hong also serves as an editor for the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.
