In order to be considered for either program, it is highly recommended that applicants hold a degree in the biological (e.g., microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, neurobiology, psychobiology, genetics) and chemical sciences (e.g., biochemistry, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, thermodynamics). They must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average in upper division courses in these subjects. Degree-holders from other disciplines, but with a strong background in the sciences, are also welcome to apply.

Application Process

As the Oral Biology program is a graduate program; applicants must apply via the Graduate Division website. Even if you are applying to the DDS program or Orthodontics program, the application for our MS and PhD programs are SEPARATE applications. We will also need three letters of recommendation, official transcripts, statement of purpose and CV.

Selection Factors

The factors considered by the Admissions Committee are:

  • Undergraduate GPA and science-course grades

  • GRE (only required for PhD applicants) 

  • Recommendation letters

  • Statement of purpose

  • TOEFL (required for international applicants)

Application Deadline

The deadline to apply to the MS program is December 15 of every year. Applicants who are accepted into the program will be notified by April 15th. We have only one admission cycle. If you miss the December 15 deadline, you will have to wait until the next cycle.
