This course will include the theory and neurobiology of pain along with clinical diagnostic criteria to assist the provider in the correct diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders, neuropathic pain and primary headaches including migraine and tension-type headache. Proper use of imaging for the TMJ and imaging for other orofacial pain symptoms will also be reviewed. Neuropathic pain disorders including trigeminal neuralgia and traumatic neuropathic pain will be included. The course will also review treatment modalities used including physical medicine, psychological treatments medication management, various types injections (Botox, steroids, hyaluronic acid, trigger point injections and nerve blocks) and oral appliance therapy.
