Current advancements and improved technology in Implant Dentistry have significantly enhanced the clinician’s ability to provide quality care at a higher level and improved predictability with implant therapy. This training course will review the improvements that have been introduced in the area of surgical implant placement beginning with free-hand surgical placement of a dental implant progressing to guided surgical placement and more recently, navigational placement. The presentation will highlight specific areas where the clinician must become trained in order to take full advantage of the improved digital technologies and advanced techniques so that they may provide a higher quality of care for their implant patients.

Specific areas that will be addressed and discussed will focus on the Functional and Esthetic Zones as to:

  • Improvements in diagnostic equipment and computer software programs that may assist in improving clinical outcomes.
  • Improvements in surgical techniques and principles to minimize trauma and manage soft tissue contours.
  • Improvements in prosthetic techniques and principles to permit immediate loading

Following PI Brånemark’s initial challenge to the surgeon, it is extremely important for the clinician actively involved with Implant Dentistry to understand the principles and necessity to follow the appropriate surgical and restorative protocols to obtain long-term success for their implant patients.

Learning Objectives
  • Understand the importance of proper diagnostic workup and the benefits of current diagnostic tools such as the Cone Beam CT scan, and the usefulness of software planning programs for treatment planning implant cases
  • Gain knowledge of new surgical and prosthetic techniques and principles with guided and navigational approaches to enhance clinical outcomes for the implant patient
  • Be able to incorporate this information on digital dentistry into their daily practices when managing their implant cases
