2017 CDA Cares Bakersfield

This year at the CDA Cares Bakersfield:

“An estimated 10 million Californians experience barriers to dental care. The California Dental Association and #CDA Foundation host CDA Cares, a program that allows volunteer dentists, with the assistance of other dental professionals and community volunteers, to provide dental services at no charge to approximately 2,000 people at each event.”

A number of UCLA Dentistry students volunteer at each CDA Cares, but this one was special for third-year student Walter Fuentes, a Bakersfield native.

Walter actively recruited his fellow students to volunteer, and he was quite successful. About 60 of our students volunteered for this event, most of whom traveled by a chartered bus generously provided by Dean Krebsbach. Walter is one our student representatives to CDA , and he worked very hard as a member of the CDA Cares Bakersfield local planning committee. Other faculty participants included Dr. Felsenfeld, Dr. Bo Yu and Dr. Hewlett.

Our students were fully engaged, working as chair side assistants, in the sterilization area, as runners, and wherever else needed. Per Dr. Hewlett, he received several compliments from #CDA Cares staff on the “awesomeness” of our students.

Show some love and support to our #UCLA #Dentistry students!
