Dr. Alireza Moshaverinia, assistant professor of prosthodontics, has received the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) 2018 Young Investigator Award. He was recognized at the opening ceremonies of the association's 96th general session on July 25 and will serve a two-year term on its board of directors.

His research interests include the development of novel biomaterials to deliver stem cells in vivo as a clinical approach to bone regeneration in disease states such as periodontitis and/or for bone repair following trauma.

Moshaverinia, who directs the Laboratory for Biomaterials Innovation & Tissue Engineering (BITE) at the Weintraub Center for Reconstructive Biotechnology at UCLA, was awarded a five-year NIH/NIDCR K08 award to study novel stem cell delivery systems to improve bone regeneration including the development of novel biomaterials and studying the role of the biomaterials in the cross talk between stem cells and host immune system in stem cell-mediated tissue engineering.

Moshaverinia, a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontists, holds degrees from Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC.
