The UCLA School of Dentistry welcomed Dr. Jimmy Hu, assistant professor (tenure track), to the division of oral biology and medicine, effective Monday, January 7. Dr. Hu has a long-standing interest in developmental and stem cell biology and has focused his research on understanding tissue morphogenesis and stem cell-based renewal during his graduate study work at Harvard University and postdoctoral training at UCSF—his position prior to UCLA.

Dr. Hu comes to the dental school with an impressive list of publications in several top research journals, including Cell Stem Cell and Nature Cell Biology. He is also the recipient of a R00 NIH Pathway to Independence Award from the NIDCR. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2003 and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2012. He will continue to investigate how organs are shaped and renewed, using teeth and craniofacial structures as model systems.
