Dear Students, Faculty, Residents, Trainees, Staff and Friends,

No-Hee Park

I would like to take this time to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and a prosperous and healthy 2015. As always, the fall quarter and the beginning of the winter quarter are especially busy for the UCLA School of Dentistry. We started the fall quarter by welcoming the Class of 2018, and these bright and talented students are well into their first year of dental school. I look forward to hearing of all their accomplishments and becoming more acquainted during their time in dental school.

We continued our year-long series of activities in recognition of the School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration by hosting “Clinic Day: Smile Reconstruction.” The event was an opportunity to highlight UCLA's excellence in clinical dentistry. The program included lectures by our world-renowned faculty members as well as a poster presentation and corresponding competition. The event drew a packed audience for the lecture part and the lobby was overflowing with innovative research posters. I would like to thank all of the organizers of the event for their hard work, especially Dr. Paulo Camargo for leading the organizing committee.

We held our 2nd Annual Health Fair/Screening Day and corresponding Treatment Day in November. The outreach event, in partnership with Wilshire Bank, was held at the bank's Northridge branch in the San Fernando Valley. More than 80 adults and children received dental treatment.

Several of our research faculty had their work published in some of the country’s most prominent journals over the past several months. The School’s research enterprise continues to prosper with new and existing contracts and grants totaling more than $14 million for the first half of the 2014-2015 fiscal year (July 1, 2014 to January 16, 2015).

In October, the School was the fortunate benefactor of a $2 million donation from Bob and Marion Wilson. The Wilson’s donation established an endowed scholarship fund, which will be used in support of annual scholarships to dental students who excel in the classroom and are dedicated to public service. We cannot thank the Wilsons enough for their very generous gift.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and I encourage everyone to learn more about what makes the UCLA School of Dentistry such an amazing place to study, learn, educate, and work.
