Staff Honors

Cindy Oshiro, academic personnel analyst, was awarded a 2018-2019 Staff Assembly Professional Development Scholarship, given by the UCLA Retirees Association. The award will be used to help her obtain the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certificate from the HR Certification Institute. The PHR certificate signifies that an individual is both knowledgeable and experienced in the field of human resources. Cindy pictured with Steve Shaevel, director of academic personnel.

Kristina Etchison, division administrator for diagnostic and surgical sciences, was selected as a member of a UCLA campus-wide task force on working relationships. The group’s priority is to produce actionable recommendations for UCLA leadership on what we can be do to enhance working relationships at the university.

“I consider this to be an honor and I look forward to being of service to the UCLA community as a whole,” said Kristina.

Spotlight on Staff: Guille Gaeta Huizar

 Dean Krebsbach:

Guille, one of the things I notice most about you is that you always seem to be so cheerful and happy. I really admire your mindset.

Guille:

Thank you. I don’t like to talk about myself, but I do work on maintaining a positive outlook on life. Just as one needs food for nourishment, I work on my spiritual side to find the best in people and to be happy.

Dean Krebsbach:

What is your job title and what is your role in the school?

Guille:

I am an administrative assistant in the Division of Advanced Prosthodontics.  I started at the School of Dentistry in 2006, so that makes 12 years in my position. I work with students to help them get through all our requirements. Some students say Prosthodontics is more complicated and harder to get through than many other disciplines. I try to help build a bridge between the students and faculty.

Dean Krebsbach:

What activities do you enjoy outside of school?

Guille:

I enjoy gathering with my children, grandchildren, and friends to volunteer at our church. I also enjoy working together to prepare food and clothing baskets for less fortunate people. It is important to me to teach my grandchildren to give back to our community.

Dean Krebsbach:

That is a wonderful family activity Guille. Thank you for sharing it with me and for making my day with your sunny personality.
