Let There Be Exceptional TeachingEarl Freymiller shows a student X-rays in the clinic

Dr. Earl Freymiller has been with UCLA for nearly 25 years and is currently a Professor of Clinical Dentistry and the Chairman of the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UCLA School of Dentistry. Beyond his day-to-day responsibilities in academia, every three months he travels to Ensenada, Mexico to perform surgery on underserved and impoverished children with cleft lip and palate deformities.

Dr. Freymiller is just one of nearly 80 full-time faculty members who make the School of Dentistry one of the leading dental schools in the world. Our faculty provide course instruction, oversee the development of student competence in the clinic, conduct cutting-edge research, and create a true academic community. However, a number of our senior faculty members are at or near retirement age. This comes at a time when there is a critical national shortage of qualified faculty members to take their places. Consequently, one of the School of Dentistry’s most critical priorities is the creation of endowed chairs, which plays a vital role in attracting and retaining the finest faculty from around the world. Within the academic community, appointment to an endowed chair is one of the most prestigious honors.

An endowed chair provides a reliable on-going source of support to distinguished faculty, such as Dr. Freymiller. As the inaugural holder of the Bob and Marion Wilson Endowed Chair, the eighth endowed chair at the School of Dentistry, Dr. Freymiller is better able to focus on training future oral and maxillofacial surgeons, as well as treating patients for oral diseases and defects. Endowed chairs help our valued faculty members deliver exceptional education for current and future generations of leaders in dentistry.

WHEN YOU SUPPORT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ENDOWED CHAIR, YOU ARE SUPPORTING ONE OF OUR MOST VALUED ASSETS, OUR FACULTY AND THEIR WORK.
