Program Overview

In addition to our acclaimed DDS, post DDS, and international training programs, the School of Dentistry also offers a Master of Science (MS) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, both specializing in Oral Biology. Our graduate programs are some of the most competitive in the country and accept, on average, 12 to 15 Master’s students and 3 doctoral students per year for the coveted slots. Students are mentored by world-renowned faculty members in the oral biology research field that supervise and guide them throughout the duration of the programs. Only a few dental schools in the nation offer a Master’s and/or PhD program in the oral biology field. Exposure to the cutting-edge research enterprise at the School of Dentistry, students have the ability to pursue subject matter that no other program can offer.

Graduate programs are offered through the School of Dentistry’s Division of Oral Biology and Medicine. The Master's program is designed to provide residents from the School of Dentistry and oral health researchers with biomedical research experience and basic science knowledge. The doctoral program is designed to prepare students for careers as independent research scientists in oral health research.

The Division of Oral Biology and Medicine also offers a Preceptorship program, with specializations in the health sciences, to interested candidates. To read more about this program, please visit the Preceptorships’ section.
