What to Expect as a New Patient

Step #1

  • Option A: To register as a new patient, please first contact the UCLA Venice Dental Center at (310) 392-4103. Following the initial patient registration phone call, you will be given access to completing a medical history form electronically and other information related to dental care at UCLA. If you have questions, you can also email them at vdc@dentistry.ucla.edu

  • Option B:  Download the New Patient Registration packet, fill out and email to VDC@dentistry.ucla.edu, send via fax to (310) 392-8513, or bring with you to your first appointment.

  • Option C: You can also go to the Venice Dental Center in person. For directions.

Step #2

Before becoming a patient of record at the UCLA Venice Dental Center, you will first be screened by a faculty member to determine if your treatment needs are a good fit for the teaching environment.  A full series of X-rays or basic X-rays will be taken as needed, determined by screening faculty. The fee for the full series of X-rays is $50.

Step #3

Once the screening process is complete and the patient is accepted as a potential teaching case, he/she will be scheduled for a comprehensive oral examination. The fee for the oral examination in the student clinic is $45 and patients will receive a full-mouth treatment plan created by an assigned faculty and pre-doctoral student. Once the patient signs the treatment plan, he/she become a patient of record and then procedures will be started in the following appointment.

If your treatment needs are complex, you may be assigned to the Venice Residency Clinic (Venice AEGD) and a secondary screening with the residency Program Director will be required. The fee for the oral examination in the Venice AEGD clinic is $62. If your treatment needs are more complex than can be treated in Venice AEGD, we will determine if your dental needs can be addressed by more specialized care at one of the Westwood Residency Clinics (including specialties), the UCLA Faculty Group Dental Practice or the private sector.
