Health Fairs

Improving the oral health of individuals in California is central to the UCLA School of Dentistry’s mission. Dating back to 1998, we have been providing free dental care and treatment at community health fairs to hundreds of adults and children living in Los Angeles and neighboring counties.

By participating in health fairs, the School of Dentistry is providing an extremely valuable service to the community. The time that our students and faculty spend and the expertise they lend to providing care and promoting the importance of good oral health are among our most valuable contributions to society.

In addition to providing free dental services, students also have the opportunity to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds, and experience first-hand the various needs and challenges associated with individual groups in the community.

The map on the facing page lists the locations where the School of Dentistry provided dental care during the 2012-2013 fiscal year. The majority of the list of clinical care sites refers to the patient visits list on page 36, where our pre- and post-doctoral students and faculty provided quality, affordable care. The list of health fairs refers to outreach events where patients received free dental care.

It should be noted that the locations indicated on the map also include the four additional health fairs, spearheaded by Dr. Edmond Hewlett and the Section of Pediatric Dentistry, which are discussed later in this section.

Public service is a value we strive to uphold and instill in everyone who receives training at the School of Dentistry.
